Biomass as a fuel for heating has gained great mobility and the possibility of easier global trading through pellet.
In the European Union market, which is the world's largest market for pellet, in addition to pellet produced on the territory of the European Union, you can also find pellet produced by producers from the USA, Canada, Brazil, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and Asia. In order to maintain the level of pellet quality on a global level, the ENplus® standard was established, which is managed by the European Pellet Council (EPC - European Pellet Council).
This standard classified 3 levels of pellet quality:
ENplus controls the entire supply chain from production to delivery to the end customer and thus offers high quality assurance and complete transparency. Pellet producers who hold the ENplus certificate are regularly controlled by independent foreign auditors. In doing so, the incoming raw material, the production plant is controlled, as well as whether the manufacturer conducts internal product quality control.Daily control of pellets and storage of samples is an obligation according to the ENplus standard, such as, for example, the storage of food samples in the catering industry.Once the pellets are produced, there are ENplus certified distributors further down the chain. ENplus certified distributors must meet strict storage, delivery vehicle and driver training criteria.
Recognizing the necessity of raising the quality level of pellets of Bosnian origin, the DRVOSJEČA company, as a trader with the largest individual market share in the firewood and pellet market, started the process of implementing the ENplus standard in its plants and representative offices throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina in early 2021. As a result of our dedicated work, with the aim of supplying the domestic as well as the European market with high-quality pellets, in March 2021, our company officially received a certificate on the applied ENplus standard in its business as a pellet trader. This made our company the FIRST and ONLY one in Bosnia and Herzegovina to receive a certificate as an authorized pellet distributor according to the ENplus standard, and to this day it remains the only one, successfully maintaining its standard according to strict criteria.
The ENplus standard decisively determined which type of raw material can go into the pellet, and also defined the parameters of pellet quality that producers must adhere to, such as moisture, mechanical strength, ash residues, calorific value, dust in the pellet, total density, dimensions and other chemical parameters.
The very fact that the manufacturer or distributor is certified gives end consumers security when purchasing. And how do you know if a company that claims to be certified is truly certified?
